Eduardo C. Villanueva, also known as Eddie Villanueva, 66 years old, is known more commonly as Brother Eddie as a result of his religious and spiritual leadership which eventually led up to his political career. Married to Adoracion “Dory” Villanueva, they have had three children; Eduardo “Jon-Jon” Villanueva, Jr., Emmanuel Joel Villanueva and Joni Villanueva-Tugna. In 1969 Eddie Villanueva graduated with a degree in Commerce majoring in Economics from the Philippine College of Commerce (now renamed Polytechnic University of the Philippines).
Initially beginning as an activist during Martial law, Eduardo Villanueva fought local landgrabbers in Bulacan which resulted in his incarceration twice. After a supposed “life changing encounter” in 1973, he became a preacher and founded the Jesus Is Lord Church in 1978. In 2004 he began his political campaign in the Philippine presidential elections, gaining some notoriety due to his heavy religious identity. Villanueva also ran again in the 201 elections, unsuccessfully, though finished fifth out of nine with 3.12% of the votes.

Running as an independent candidate in the 2013 senate elections, Eduardo C. Villanueva is advocating the Reproductive Health Law, Sin tax reform law, reinstatement of the death penalty, whilst against Divorce, same sex marriages and the implementation of a total gun ban. Alongside these agendas for the 2013 senate bid, Bro. Eddie Villanueva has stated that he would he would act as a peacemaker in the senate and wishes to patch up differences between senators as well as hasten to legislation. He has also stated that there is a strong focus on providing on providing more rights to Filipinos working in foreign countries.
