Number of registered voters in Palawan jumps to more than 500,000

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Dec. 23 (PNA) — The number of registered voters in Palawan has increased to 581,983 or seven percent higher than last year’s figure, according to an update recently released by the Provincial Commission on Election(COMELEC).

In the data from the Palawan COMELEC, it said the present count is 40,000 more compared to the number of registered voters in 2011.

The most number of voters is from Puerto Princesa with a total of 148,183; while the municipality of Kalayaan in the disputed West Philippines Sea registered the least with 288.

Panchito Reynoso of the Provincial COMELEC said for the second congressional district composed of municipalities in southern Palawan, the total number of voters is 222,918; and 191,223 for the first congressional district composed of municipalities in the northern part.

For the newly established third congressional district composed of Puerto Princesa and the town of Aborlan, the number of voters qualified to participate in the 2013 mid-term national and local elections is placed at 167,822, Reynoso said.

He said that for the May 2013 polls, Palawan will have 514 voting centers and 883 clustered precincts, which is 37 precincts more than the 2010 elections.

Reynoso stated the provincial summary of registered voters is final and has been submitted to the national COMELEC office as part of the master lists preparation. (PNA)
