Local elections will be held in Marikina on May 9, 2016 within the Philippine general election. The voters will elect for the elective local posts in the city: the mayor, vice mayor, two district representatives, and councilors, eight in each of the city’s two legislative districts.
Marikina City, a first-class city in Metro Manila, has a population of 424,150, according to the 2010 census.
With a land mass of 21.52 square kilometers, Muntinlupa is bordered on the west by Quezon City, to the south by Pasig City and Cainta, Rizal, to the north by San Mateo, Rizal and to the east by Antipolo City, the capital of Rizal province.
It was given the title Shoe Capital of the Philippines because of its notable shoe industry, being the biggest manufacturer of shoes in the Philippines, producing almost 70% of shoes manufactured in the country.
